      Charles Thom, 81, 2121 S. TR 119, died at 9:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
      He was born Nov. 18, 1918, in Scipio Township, to William and Clara (Nick) Thom. On Dec. 29, 1945, in St. Boniface Church, New Riegel, he married Corrine Tiell, who survives.
      Other survivors include: two sons, William C. and John A. Thom, both of Tiffin; two daughters, Mrs. John T. (Martha A.) Fiegelist of Tiffin and Joan M. Thom of Toledo; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Marjorie) Laird of Fremont; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
      Also preceding him in death were a brother, Lewis Thom; and two sisters, Mary Thom and an infant, Rita Mae Thom.
      Mr. Thom, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, was a retired farmer and masonary contractor.
      He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and American Legion Post 354, New Riegel, where he served as past post commander.
      A past member of the Home Builders Association, he also enjoyed walking.
      A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Frank A. Murd as celebrant. The rosary will be recited at the church at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, New Riegel, where military graveside services will be conducted aT the graveside by the New Riegel American Legion..
      Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Monday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where American Legion services will be at 7 p.m. and a wake service at 8:45 p.m.
      Memorials may be made to the church, Community Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.
