- NOTE for Elizabeth Thom:
Elizabeth Thom married Adam Simonis in May of 1864. Their farm was just south of St. Nicholas Church on Township Road 61. There Adam built a beautiful big brick home with a bay window, a double front porch, and a double stairway. A nice barn, corncribs, and garage were also built. Adam was a carpenter and farmer.
He also ran a saw mill, sold windmills, and had a threshing machine with which he did custom threshing for others. Elizabeth and Adam had ten children--five daughters and five sons. One of their daughters is Sarah E. (b. 18 Feb 1874 d. 31 Jan 1948) who married Peter Haubert.
Adam Simonis' ancestors were among the early settlers in Big Springs Township,Seneca County , Ohio. Peter Simonis (1778-1841) and Maria Anna (Langenstein) (b. 1779) and their 9 children immigrated in echelons to Seneca County from Queidersbach, Germany via Le Havre and New York in 1832 to 1841. Five bought land in Big Springs Township.
The farms they hewed out of the forest were clustered near Frenchtown, Ohio, and they were among the families who helped build St. Nicholas Church.
