    • Paul Louis Elchert, Sr. of 39 Hall Street, Tiffin, Ohio died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2003 in St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio. He was born on August 14, 1926 in Tiffin, Ohio to Earl and Lillian (Lehnert) Elchert. They do not survive. On September 7, 1946 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married Ellen Hartzell. She survives in Tiffin.

      Other survivors include 4 sons, Paul Elchert, Jr.; Joe (Nancy) Elchert; Urb (Pat) Elchert, and Lawrence (Shirley) Elchert; all of Tiffin, 4 daughters, Peg (Bernie) Distel; Mary Sue (Mike) Wuescher; Theresa (Dan) Reino; and Patty (Doug) Poe all of Tiffin, 27 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Robert Elchert and Charles “Bump” Elchert both of Tiffin. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Ann Elchert, and 1 granddaughter, Casey Rochelle Elchert.

      Mr. Elchert was a 1945 Calvert High School graduate. He served in the United States Navy during World War II serving aboard the ship LST 745. Mr. Elchert had retired in 1985 after 42 years at American Standard, Tiffin. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus; Local #7, IBOP Union; Amvets; Golden Age Eagles; Moose and the American Legion. He was an avid woodworker and collector.

      There will be a wake service Sunday at 3:45 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Rev. Timothy Ferris will officiate the funeral Mass. Burial will take place immediately following the funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The United Veterans Council of Seneca County will perform military rites at the gravesite.
