  • Notes
    • NOTE FOR TERESIA REINHART:

Female members of the family often had an "-in" added at the end of their last names, hence, Teresia's baptized name is listed as Maria Theresia Reinhardin. Later, the "h" was dropped from her first name and the family changed the last letter of their last name from ReinharD to ReinharT prior to coming to America. Also, she did not use her first name, Maria. This gives us the name of Teresia Reinhart.

Teresia was 17 years old when she left Niedernberg and journeyed to America with her family. Teresia's mother, Maria Anna, died shortly after their arrival while her father, Peter, had gone to Bucyrus, Ohio, to purchase land in Seneca County. Her father then took the children north to the newly established farmland near Alvada, Ohio.

As such, Teresia must have had the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings.

With the absence of her mother, we can presume that Teresia took on that role.

About five years later, Teresia married Michael Welly (1795-1860) on April 11, 1839, at
St. Boniface Church in New Riegel, Ohio. Michael's family had also emigrated from Europe... either Germany or Luxembourg. Michael was 44 years old at the time of their wedding... making him 21 years older than his young wife, Teresia, at age 23.

This must have been a very special wedding day for Teresia, because it was on the exact same day as her father Peter Reinhart, married for a second time to Maria Anna Krasther

Teresia and Michael Welly built a house west of her father's farm and close to her brother John Reinhart and his wife Susanna. Teresia and Michael Welly raised 8 children, as listed below.

Michael Welly died on August 5, 1860. Just two years later, at age 42, Teresia died on September 18, 1862. At the time of her death, her children ranged in age from 22 years to just 4 years old.

Teresia and Michael Welly are both buried in St. Peters Church cemetery near Alvada, Ohio
